A concentrated wine with well-expressed minerality and dark stone fruit aromas. There is a certain velvety texture in the mouthfeel. The nose is complex, with layers of dark cherry, plums, and wild blackberries. The finish is rich, focused, and fruit-dominated. The new barrels bring in aromas of maple, cocoa-mocha, and a hint of vanilla.
My quest to find new and interesting vineyards off the beaten path continues with Hitchcock Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, located at the top of the mountain range dividing the Russian River, Knights Valley, and Chalk Hill appellations. Besides the forever views, the vineyard gets plenty of sunshine and cool breezes. The relatively old vines, in combination with the terroir—steep hills and volcanic soils—produce intense wine with spectacular color and concentrated tannins. Altogether, this is an age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon that will bring joy to your senses.
